12 Effective Ways to Get Rid of Gnats on Houseplants and In Soil

how to get rid of gnats in house

These disposable fruit fly traps, which are baited with a nontoxic lure, can catch about 2,000 flies each, and can last for one month. One of our favorite traps to buy is Aunt Fannie's FlyPunch which is non-toxic and super easy to use. Gnats are primarily attracted to sweet and fruity scents, but many species of gnats are also drawn to water and body heat. Perspiration and even the moisture of your eyes and nose can draw in gnats. Fruits, vegetables and flowers growing in your garden or food residue in your sink can attract these pests. Knowing how to get rid of gnats completely will likely require multiple treatments and preventative measures.

How to Get Rid of Gnats in the Garden

Natural methods are the best first line of defense, so try these before turning to chemical solutions. Other signs of a gnat infestation are your plants wilting, losing leaves, and turning yellow. Gnat infestations can weaken your plants and make them more susceptible to other pests and diseases. If none of these solutions seem to be working and the gnats keep returning, it may be time to call in a professional.

Stop Over-Watering Plants

Not only can these be irritating for your skin and airways, but they can also damage your home. Here, we look at eight ways to get rid of all types of gnats from your home and prevent them from coming back. Learn how to easily eliminate and prevent these persistent pests.

Vinegar for a Gnat Trap

Overripe fruits and vegetables can attract gnats, so keep your kitchen clean and trash properly disposed of. These tiny flying insects are a nuisance, hovering around faces and swarming in large numbers. The best answer is to quarantine new plants or those that have been outdoors for extended periods. Keep the plants in their own room for at least 17 days (a full life cycle), and inspect the plant carefully for the presence of adult gnats. Once the plant has been cleared with no insect activity, you can move it in with your other plants.

Pyrethrin Sprays to Get Rid Off the Small Flying Bugs

Read on to learn about several additional methods that will help you get rid of gnats indoors. The best way to get rid of gnats is to prevent them from coming into your house in the first place, says Gabriella Dyson, Head of Solved at Homes & Gardens. The good news is that there are multiple ways to eradicate gnats in and around your home. From there, we compile the information we’ve gathered and compare each company using our in-depth pest control methodology and review criteria. This process uses a series of factors that are important to our readers, and we score each company depending on how well they perform in each factor. These products kill gnats with an electric charge when they fly into the device. Bug zappers are an excellent way to deter biting gnats in your yard but will not fully eliminate their population, only reduce it. Also, you shouldn’t install a product that’s meant to be used outdoors inside your home. Glue or sticky traps are strips of paper or tape with an adhesive coating that traps gnats. You can set these traps anywhere in your home that sees gnat activity.

They may attempt to fly into the flame or simply fall into the soapy water and die. To increase effectiveness (if needed), mix a teaspoon of dish soap into the wine. All of these species, along with the others that are less likely to infest indoor locations, are spread across the globe.

Common Types of Gnats

how to get rid of gnats in house

The microscopic silica cuts through the outer skin of gnats when they come into contact with it. The good news is that DE won’t affect your houseplants, pets, or humans. The key to getting rid of gnats for good is eliminating each stage of their life cycle. You not only need to kill the tiny flying pests—you need to eradicate the larvae and the eggs. Gnats also come from sink drains and if you spot them near your drains you need to do something about them, because drains are breeding grounds for gnats. If the answer is positive, pour half a cup of ammonia down the sink drain and refrain from using the tap for the next few hours.

To eliminate your bug problem, you sometimes have to bring them right to you. Combine two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, half a cup of warm water, six drops of dishwashing liquid and a tablespoon of sugar into a mixture. The sugar is especially important, as it will lure in the bugs, leaving them trapped in the sticky solution. If you've noticed a swarm of gnats lingering around your sink drains, you may have drain flies. Carefully dilute one-half cup of bleach with about one gallon of water and pour it down the affected drain. Gnats thrive on the fungus of your plants, so it helps to let your plant babies dry out between waterings.

These tips to remove pests’ food sources can help you keep your home free of other types of pests as well, such as cockroaches, house flies, and ants. Consistent efforts to remove breeding sites, use traps and maintain cleanliness are crucial for successfully eliminating a gnat infestation. Finally, regularly clean up decaying organic matter, such as fallen leaves or fruits, to minimize gnat breeding grounds, according to Orkin. Keep your kitchen clean because gnats are attracted to food scraps. If you're experiencing an abundance of gnats in your house, several factors could be contributing to the problem. Gnats are attracted to warm, moist environments and breed in damp areas, so reduce or eliminate areas where water collects in your yard and house.

Fungus from mold or mildew in your home can also be a contributing factor. Gnats are attracted to damp spots to lay eggs, particularly affecting houseplants since they like to lay eggs in moist soil. A gnat infestation can damage some houseplants, causing wilting, loss of leaves, and leaf yellowing. Place a few pieces of overripe or rotting fruit in a large bowl, cover with plastic wrap and secure with a rubber band. The idea is that once gnats and fruit flies make their way in through the tiny holes, they get trapped within the plastic and can’t fly out. Mix a solution of half a cup of warm water, two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, one tablespoon of sugar, and about six drops of liquid dish soap into a small bowl.

Read on to learn how to get rid of these pesky critters, with tips from the experts on how to banish and prevent gnat infestations. You may have noticed that there are a lot of gnats around your indoor plants. This is often because plant soil is moist, which can be a breeding ground for gnats. Remember that traps and zappers only kill adult gnats, not eggs and larvae. Thus, if you have a lingering gnat infestation, a professional pest control company can help address it.

They can also be found near sinks, drains, and toilets, since they can reproduce in the grime inside pipes. Few things are as annoying as a gnat (or several) buzzing about the kitchen when you’re trying to prepare a meal. They tend to float in front of faces and land on food, giving most folks the creeps. And while these bugs do reproduce quickly, you’re not destined for a life of fluttering suffering. These tricks and tips will help homeowners learn how to get rid of gnats the next time these pests pop up.

Swarms of them fly all around the house and some even fly to sit on your nose. Before their numbers increase, it is important to control their populations. This article provides information on how to get rid of gnats in the house. No, most common house gnats don’t bite or cause any harm to your home. Now that you’ve solved your gnat problem, you should follow these four best practices for preventing them from returning.

Place the lit candle in a dish of soapy water to attract the gnats and turn out the overhead light. Although this method works best at night, never leave a burning candle unattended, especially while you sleep. Fortunately, minor to moderate gnat infestations can often be exterminated with simple DIY methods and thorough cleaning. However, if you have a severe gnat infestation, it may take more than one of these methods to eradicate the pests.

There are usually maps, sometimes a tourist information and taxis at the terminal. Check with your ship if they will provide a shuttle service into town. Once docked, cruise ships will connect up to onshore power from the grid rather than running their diesel engines or gas turbines. Today, Southampton is a home port to numerous cruise ships from lines including Cunard, P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Fred.

Close to the docks it has a dedicated multi-storey car park on Harbour Parade. There’s a broad range of unique museums and Tudor attractions within the medieval city walls and the waterfront provides an additional place for entertainment, sports, shopping, and dining. Where to stay depends on four main things – your budget, who you’re sailing with, how you’re getting to port and what terminal you’re departing from. Most hotels will get booked up very quickly in high season so as soon as you’ve booked your cruise, it’s best to start making reservations. 9 Fun Cruise Ship Games and Contests That Bring Out Your Inner Kid

cruise scavenger hunt

Adding a charm to a new bracelet, keychain, or necklace (or existing one) is a great gift to give to surprise someone with a cruise. It can be a sailboat charm (especially if you're going on a cruise with sails), a cruise ship charm, or even an anchor charm. Nature charms, such as seashells or fish-inspired charms, are easy to find too. Rather than simply stating items to find or photograph, make your scavenger hunt more challenging by only providing clues. You can alter the photograph depending on the age of the participants to make it easier or more challenging. I'm going with a pre-cruise idea to get people excited.

Murder Mystery

However, you could encourage team bonding through fun activities that workers will enjoy aboard the water vessel. Some good team building activities for cruises include a blindfold challenge, water volleyball, and a marshmallow spaghetti tower. If you are searching for team building cruise activities for work that will teach your workforce team skills, then the blindfold challenge is a must-try. Depending on the number of workers on your cruise, you could start by getting rooms on the ship. Then, let team members pair up, with one participant blindfolded.

Treasure Chest Relay

Photos should strictly be used for memories -- and possibly blackmail of family members. It casually came up in conversation throughout our cruise on Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas, but it didn't show up on our Cruise Compass until the second-to-last night of our trip. We lead wildly fun experiences for teams with 1,000,000+ players to date.

Make a YouTube playlist with videos of the ship you'll be going on, or videos with the itinerary ports of call. Tell the person you're surprising with a cruise that you want to watch TV together, and then start playing the ship videos. Are you planning a cruise with a group of friends or your family? Planning games onboard can really make your Norwegian cruise experience even more special. One of the most fun options you can try is to plan a cruise scavenger hunt.

All team members have to be in each photo—no splitting up. If you follow the cruise ship coins, you’ll see the original engine telegraph that was installed on TSS Carnivale in 1955. It’s guaranteed to be a popular photo opportunity spot. This is such a creative way to include an element of an old cruise ship on this brand new one. From handmade pieces to vintage treasures ready to be loved again, Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods.

It’s also home to a whole host of one-of-a-kind items made with love and extraordinary care. While many of the items on Etsy are handmade, you’ll also find craft supplies, digital items, and more. Princess offers a similar game, High Seas Heist, based on real-life celebrity detective Lt. Joe Kenda; it's part of the line's partnership with Discovery, Inc. Passengers pick up clues around the ship, solve puzzles and get video briefings from Lt. Kenda himself. As far as cruise ship nightlife is concerned, karaoke is king.

Shipping policies vary, but many of our sellers offer free shipping when you purchase from them. Typically, orders of $35 USD or more (within the same shop) qualify for free standard shipping from participating Etsy sellers. Etsy is no longer supporting older versions of your web browser in order to ensure that user data remains secure. If you're on the introverted side, what's enticing about this option is you won't have an audience unless you want one. Games on some ships will even spit out tickets to reward you for a stellar performance. You can then trade them in for cheesy kiddie prizes like whistles and erasers -- perfect souvenirs for the people at home (or not).

In fact, we're pretty certain no one really wins or loses, even though "winners" are rewarded with medals. Bring along a camera that does well in low light; much of the action takes place in darker spots that are backlit. But don't post those perfectly lit photos on social media sites. Consider Vegas rules in play -- what happens at Quest stays at Quest.

The goal of this game is to get invited to the nicest stateroom on the ship by meeting and talking with other guests. On most mainstream cruise ships, trivia is offered at least once a day, but usually more frequently. We've seen topics range from "Who said it?" quotes to "Name that television show theme song," with audio clues given. Several lines spice up the traditional scavenger hunt by making their version less family-friendly. If you want to amp up the surprise cruise scavenger hunt, give the person you're gifting the cruise to a basket or bag with the first clue. Then, at each subsequent location where there is a cruise, he or she will find a small gift there.

cruise scavenger hunt

If you have to fly to the port of embarkation, surprise your kids with a twist on a switch-a-roo! Pack the car the night before you leave for the cruise. Then tell them you are all going to the airport to pick up a friend and they can't stay home alone. There's no need to venture far from home for this if you want to carry out a cruise surprise scavenger hunt in your house or apartment or just your neighborhood.

For instance, you could have a nature or cultural scavenger hunt depending on the cruise’s port. The search can last for a few minutes to an hour or for the cruise duration. Whether you enjoy participating in cruise ship games or you're just hoping to watch from the stands, there are some interesting choices on the high seas. Check out this list of cruise games that will make you feel like a kid again.

Give a tip to at least 4 people on the ship in 1 day (not “last-day” tips). Sometimes Sailing is a cruise-focused website by Dan and Mikkel Woodruff, a couple passionate about cruising. Something tangible like this will amp up everyone's excitement and is a great day-pack bag for your Disney Cruise.

The lifeboat game is one of the best team building cruise ideas for adults. While you have a team of ten, the lifeboat can only accommodate five participants. If the five extra attendees are not eliminated from the boat, then all players will die. The tricky part with this game is that every participant can play a vital role in the entire group’s survival.

If you are lucky to be on a cruise ship with a swimming pool, then you can organize a carton boat race. This fun and easy team building idea will boost your team’s creativity and problem-solving skills. Then simply let that person know you're leaving…right now! We suggest stacking on surprise cruise reveal ideas to this one, so there's something you give that person just before you drive to the port or go to the airport to get to the port. Planning a team building cruise can be hectic, from looking for a ship with all necessary amenities to researching fun activities and maintaining a specific budget range. While the exercise may seem simple, carrying out the activity on a cruise ship is more challenging, given the limited materials.

Then, prepare pirate costumes for each participant, such as a vest or a pirate hat. When ready to start the race, have participants partner up, and tie their middle legs together three-legged-race-style. Workers will then fill treasures into their pirate costumes. The first team member to reach the treasure chest wins points for their team. Other team members will take part in the relay until all employees participate. The winning team should have the highest number of workers to reach the treasure chest.

Be sure to keep in mind, however, that you may need a “puzzle completion date deadline” for this one. You wouldn't want to finish the puzzle after the cruise leaves. There are some VERY cute cruise ship ornaments on Etsy.

Your Cruise Itinerary Wont Be Boring

Carnival Cruise Line launched the first year-round cruise program from Baltimore in 2009 and since then has carried well over one million guests, making Carnival the number one cruise operator from the port. As of now, the next ships to sail will do so in September and October. Already, the line has had great success with the returns of Carnival Horizon out of Miami, as well as both Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze sailing from Galveston. Pushaw said the governors executive order is not likely to scare away seagoing travelers. Youll also find harbor cruises in Annapolis and St. Michaels, Maryland.

First off, did you know that setting sail on a luxury liner from Baltimore could be as breezy as a day by the Inner Harbor? No need for mountains of credit history here—imagine getting the wind in your sails with a no credit history loan faster than you can say ‘Bon Voyage’! That’s right, with options available for everyone, you can embark on an adventure on high seas, no matter your financial forecast.

Reach new heights on the rock-climbing wall 40 feet above deck. Indulge in gourmet globe-trotting with mouthwatering dishes from Italy to Japan. On Wednesday, a spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Line told Travel + Leisure it temporarily moved its sailings on the Carnival Legend to Norfolk, Virginia. The company will provide a complimentary bus service from Norfolk back to Baltimore when the ship returns from its current voyage on Sunday for passengers who boarded in Baltimore prior to the collapse.

Each port of call boasts excursions tailored to a variety of interests – whether you’re an intrepid explorer or a connoisseur of culture. Onboard, the array of activities blends the familiar with the novel, inviting every passenger to indulge in their preferences while possibly discovering new ones. It’s in the plusher-than-plush cabins and the attention to detail in the sumptuous dining halls where you understand the true spirit of 5-star cruising. Onboard these liners, you’ll find spas that transport you to lands of zen, and culinary feats that would make even the stringent stanley cup pink of food critics blush with delight. Unfortunately, the location of the port doesn’t lend itself to public transportation. Given the relatively modest size of the port’s operations, there are also few third-party options like cruise shuttles available as you find in larger ports.

Baltimore cruises often range from 6-9 nights providing cruisers with a variety of different entertainment and dining options. Vision of the Seas is the sole Royal Caribbean cruise ship sailing from Baltimore, and was out on a long sailing when the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed after being hit by a cargo ship. Expect arrival time, from the main entrance gate to the doors of the terminal, to take at least 25 minutes. The cruise ship terminal's convenient location (on I-95) and its large and cheap parking are beneficial for the port's business growth. Also convenient is that the terminal has separate docking areas for Carnival and RCCL ships, plus a third area ready for another major cruise company to homeport a vessel here. Baltimore cruise terminal was moved in 2006 from Dundakl Port to South Locus Point.

Such areas as Fell's Point, Canton, Federal Hill, Little Italy and Mount Vernon contain treasures -- historic, culinary, cultural and otherwise -- that are ripe for discovery. Some of the neighborhoods are within walking distance of the Inner Harbor. If your feet start complaining, the city provides free transportation on the Charm City Circulator (three routes). The Water Taxi Harbor Connector does what it says -- connects interesting spots along the Inner Harbor. Baltimore is still a thriving port city, complemented by numerous cultural and sports attractions and a first-class culinary scene. Watch for all-inclusive deals, particularly in the 0/1-3 months before sailing, that bundle dining, entertainment, and sometimes even beverage packages, all for one lower price.

Carnival's Wi-Fi Service

does the carnival cruise have wifi

But before you run down to Guest Services, try simply reconnecting first. Before May 2022, Wi-Fi packages started at a mere $6.80 per day. Now, the starting rate has nearly doubled to $12.75 per day. Typically, you’ll pay for the entire duration of the cruise, a change from the past when you could buy Wi-Fi for specific days only. AT&T does offer a "Cruise Plus" plan for a flat fee of $100 that allows unlimited talk and text during sailings up to 30 days in duration. But it only comes with 1 gigabyte of data (which may seem like a lot until you start streaming movies), with any overage billing at a still-hefty $10 per 100 megabytes.

Carnival's WiFi Internet technology

And this is a great way to save money on the wifi package as a family and stay connected. Don’t make your way to your favorite cruise ship restaurant, only to find it closed when you arrive. Check all of the ship’s open and close times via the app. The What’s Happening feature gives you full access to everything going on, on the ship, at any given time. Because cruise lines are already operating Wi-Fi networks, it can make sense to create in-house systems to allow guests to communicate with each other. Disney Cruise Line has done so with its app, which provides complimentary messaging to other guests on the ship.

Love Cruising? Then Follow Us on Social Media

Pricing for Wi-Fi on cruise ships varies pretty dramatically from one cruise line to another. Amongst all that food, swimming, dancing and drinking you may want to post a few pictures of your fun. Depending on the location and time of day, the wifi may vary in connecting speeds. For example, you will likely have the best connectivity early in the morning or late at night when many guests are in bed.

Wi-Fi on cruise ships: What you need to know about internet use on board.

Then, during your cruise, you’ll receive safety- and health-related notifications as necessary. Learn more about restaurants, foodie events and find menus for each option on board. On some ships, you can even make reservations via the Hub app, or check in for your reservations. Planning your cruising activities shouldn’t be difficult, and cruise lines realize this. That’s why just about every cruise line now offers its own cruising app.

does the carnival cruise have wifi

It is important to manage your expectations appropriately. While the speeds are fairly good for a cruise ship setting, don’t expect the same kind of blazing-fast service you might have at home or the office. For example, visiting YouTube took around 10 seconds for video thumbnails to appear, while text headlines on CNN.com loaded relatively quickly, although images were delayed.

Onboard Internet

There may be restaurants that offer wi-fi to customers or ports of call that offer access for a cheaper fee than what’s on the ship. You can also access the Internet with a day-pass so you don’t have to pay for access the entire week. If you simply want to stay connected, check email occasionally and text some friends, then paying that much seems too high to us (that’s where the cheaper Social and Value plans are nice).

For those taking a Carnival cruise in the near future, the Carnival Hub app is invaluable. The maritime communication companies that specialize in providing internet connections to ships have been trying to speed things up in recent years. Solutions have included adding more satellites and linking their systems to land-based towers that connect with ships as they near shore. FunHub is available free of charge on any Internet Café Fun Hub computer or Wi-Fi device.

But the promised access to Netflix streaming wasn't quite as smooth as I had hoped. Clicking on a favorite show, I only could watch for a few minutes before the connection inevitably froze. When I ran a speed test of Voom on Adventure of the Seas, I found the line's fastest option, the Surf + Stream service, usually offered download speeds of just around 3 megabits per second. I never found download speeds exceeding 4 Mbps, but I did see it drop as low as 1.5 Mbps. Next in line, ready to welcome the HUB app, are Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Pride, and Carnival Sunshine, by the end of 2015.

Onboard Communication

On some ships operated by Carnival, you even can order beer and pizza to wherever you happen to be using an app. And there are certain parts of the world where satellite coverage is too thin or nonexistent to allow for internet access on cruise ships. To start, there is no Comcast cable wire running to your cruise ship. On cruise ships, every packet of data you are downloading onto your phone or computer, for the most part, is coming over a satellite, which is not a quick or inexpensive proposition.

All system upgrades, hardware changes, and new Internet equipment installations were done during the ships' dry-dock refurbishments. For both WiFi plans are available 24-hour / daily rates, respectively, $16 and $25. I always opt for a virtual private network (VPN) when I travel for security and privacy online. However, some customers have stated that certain streaming sites can be a hit or miss. Carnival WiFi packages could be an awesome addition to your getaway, but whether or not they’re worth it can depend on a lot of variables. However, we have found from various reports that the speed is considered ‘reasonably good’ for a cruise.

Internet access to sites that are outside the Fun Hub is also available wirelessly and through all Fun Hub locations. The Fun Hub Carnival website can be accessed through Wi-Fi enabled devices. Guests must connect to the Carnival WiFi network and open an Internet browser. Fun Hub is also accessible at the complimentary Internet café locations with 24-hour access. Currently available on Carnival Breeze, Dream, Magic, Sunshine and Vista, the Fun Hub locations allow passengers free access to informative websites updated daily. WiFi package cost USD 12 per day, with a discount price of US$10,25 (if pre-purchased prior departure).

Please note, on your personal laptop you can read, edit and save files without restrictions according to the programs installed. Prices are based on cruise-long plans and are subject to change without prior notice. The service also provides showtimes, daily activities, menus and the ability to book paid activities without needing to go to the front desk. There aren’t any cruises that’ll give you unlimited Wi-Fi for free, but some do provide limited complimentary services.

For most of the many years I've been writing about cruising, the typical internet connection at sea hasn't just been slow. You'd click on a website only to experience many seconds of frustration. Maybe the cruise would end while you were still sitting there. We honestly recommend downloading shows you want to watch before going on your cruise. That way you won’t have to worry about the speed of the Wi-Fi and can even opt for a cheaper Wi-Fi package. Plus, when you go on excursions, you won’t need internet access.

The app’s functions expand once you’re actually on your cruise, to include more capabilities, but, ahead of time, you have everything you need to start planning your dream cruise itinerary. Prepare ahead and download the Carnival app before you board your ship. Free to download and use (save for a few special features), you can download the Carnival Hub app in a few places. From there, the website will redirect you to either the app store or Google Play. You can use the app with your tablet, but just note that it may look a little funny.

If you’d rather wait to buy until you’re on board — which will cost you more than you’ll pay if you pre-purchase — you can do so through the HUB app. I opted for the Premium plan during my cruise, and its speed was truly impressive. I experienced no connection problems while video and music streaming or conducting video calls. Carnival Cruises offers onboard Internet packages of different prices and quality. Depending on your preferences, these include social media, value, and premium packages.

Arvia Cruise Ship Highlights

arvia cruise

The 2022-built MS Arvia cruise ship is P&O UK fleet's second Excellence-class boat, with sistership Iona. P&O's Arvia and Iona are currently the newest and largest passenger liners designed and built for the UK source market. For extra space there's also a Deluxe Balcony cabin costing less than a mini-suite but with nearly as much floor space.

The Crow’s Nest, the Horizon Buffet, Limelight Lounge and Headliners theatre are key interior public spaces which share many similarities. P&O Cruises, as a distinct entity, emerged in 1977 as cruising became a popular travel experience. In 2003 P&O Cruises became part of the Carnival group and subsequently underwent an image change, with the famous yellow hull colouring being replaced by blue funnels and Union flag hull art. We love this new family-friendly, nine-hole course for Arvia and can't wait to compete around this cheery, tropical-themed course of water hazards, tiki huts, "hippos" and night-time illuminations. Billed as a laid back venue for all the family, we’re sure this will be a popular choice on the new ship. For a little bit extra, you can take part in a range of fun activities with experienced and informative guides by your side.

Be it a cozy stateroom or an opulent suite, expect comfort, convenience, and a cruising experience that’s truly unforgettable. When a craving for a delectable meal strikes, wander over to The Quays and treat yourself at the Arvia Roast Carvery. Nothing says comfort food better than this Yorkshire Pudding while you’re sailing the high seas. As soon as you step on board, you’ll be greeted by the stunning Arvia Grand Atrium.

Also popular are Outside cabins on the lower decks 4 and 5, with very large windows, unobstructed sea views and tend to feel less movement. From formal dining options to the casual restaurants and poolside grills, there's something for everyone no matter what the time of day. As well as popular P&O Cruises staples at Sindhu, Olive Grove, Epicurean and Glass House, aboard Arvia you’ll also find 2 new dining options in Green & Co and 6th Street Diner. The new high-ropes course, mini-golf and Mission Control Escape Room experience are all a great addition for families, though be aware that there is a height restriction on the high ropes. There’s also an Altitude Splash Valley wet zone (it’s located a deck below the high ropes course and is great on a hot day) which is fun for little ones. Our top pick for where to lounge for the day, however, is on the Promenade Deck.

The main entertainment venues are the Headliners Theatre (decks 6 and 7), the main show lounge featuring shows and musicals, the Sunset Bar and Clubhouse, Limelight Club, Andersons and the 710 Club (deck 6). The Oasis Spa is on deck 6, the Medical Centre is on deck 3, and the Casino and the Avenue shopping arcade are on deck 7. This swanky venue provides the perfect backdrop for an enjoyable night out. Whether you’re catching a live show or simply catching up with friends over drinks, its sophisticated interior and comfortable seating create the ultimate relaxation spot after a day of adventure. (Deck 6) "The 710 Club" has a stylish cocktail bar lounge served by professional mixologists. This sophisticated music bar offers live acoustic performances by top-quality artists.

"The Club House" (Deck 8) is a multi-purpose indoor/outdoor space for families to enjoy afternoon entertainment and play fun games. In the evening, it becomes a late-night "music hall" for dancing and live performances by Arvia ship's band (named "Pulse"). (Deck 19) Arvia's "Altitude" is a top-deck located outdoor adventure zone designed for families.

After Arvia's undocking, the FERU (floating engine room module) for Carnival Jubilee (CCL) was maneuvered into the free-now building dock II as the CCL ship's front part was already been built there. Carnival Jubilee's FERU was constructed at Neptun Werft in Warnemunde and was transferred to Papenburg in the previous week. Next is the P&O UK's timelapse video of the Iona-Arvia ships' construction. P&O revealed the "Arvia" name for the new ship on February 18, 2021, in a 1-min YouTube video. According to the company's press release, Arvia means "from the seashore". The name also keeps the tradition all boats in the P&O UK fleet to have names ending with "A".

It's a soothing space, tucked away from the bustle of the ship, with an adjacent hair and nail salon. A wide variety of massages are on offer, from Swedish to Bamboo to Deep Tissue or Thai, as well as assorted facials, acupuncture and detoxifying treatments. They also offer Elemis Biotec treatments which promise to treat fine lines and tired skin. Tips are not included in treatments, although they’re not added automatically.

For solo travelers, there are a handful of smaller, single cabins, in addition to the option to pay a single occupancy fee on a regular cabin. Floating in the southern Caribbean Sea, Curacao is part of the Lesser Antilles, the capital of which is Willemstad. With four historic quarters to explore in this bustling city, you'll never be short of something to do. If you've got time, it's also worthwhile spending a few hours sightseeing around the rest of the island. With its sandy beaches, sprawling towns and villages and lush green landscapes, the beauty of St. Kitts is bound to be what comes to mind when you think of the Caribbean. Coming into port in Basseterre you'll be greeted by all the modern amenities you could need, but it won't take you long to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the island.

A first for P&O Cruises, Arvia will feature Mission Control, the first escape room for a new-build British ship, with the experience combining an escape game with multimedia simulation and a live-action story. The interactive experience will involve passengers solving a series of marine-themed puzzles on the fictional submarine Arvia II. This is a group gaming experience based on motion simulation technology and interactive consoles. The underwater adventure is set onboard the fictional submarine "Arvia II" and led by Dr Melissa Ryan.

Shore excursions were good apart from one which we found rather dull and boring. Our cabin steward Mel was excellent and went above and beyond to help us. Steering participants through the escape is the submarine’s Captain (a member of the ship's animation team) who drip-feeds information. We found this to be more about role-play than a sense of jeopardy or being up against the clock to escape. But it’s priced right and for families and children this could be a fun way to spend 90 minutes.

Whether you want to relax by the pool, try your luck in the casino, or enjoy a gourmet meal, there’s something for everyone. On July 29, 2021, P&O UK announced that Arvia ship's FERU (floating engine room unit) has been installed at Meyer Werft Papenburg. This hull section (manufactured by Neptun Werft in Warnemunde-Rostock) houses all main engines and the LNG tanks, has length 140 m (460 ft), width 42 m (138 ft), weight ~12,000 tons. Once floated in the Papenburg shipyard's construction hall, the FERU served as a base platform for installing all the other prefabricated blocks (hull and superstructure) which are mounted onto the FERU. MS Arvia ship's itinerary program started in December 2022 with the maiden voyage (Dec 23rd) out of the UK homeport Southampton England to the Canaries, followed by a Transatlantic crossing to the Caribbean.. The Photo Gallery & Shop sells exclusive photoshoots (made by the ship's professional photographers) and also includes the new "360" photo booth (for making photos with attractive surrounding scenery).

While scheduled acrobatic shows are regularly performed in the SkyDome, keep a look out for unscheduled, ad hoc acrobatic displays which take place in the atrium as a surprise for guests. Get lucky in the daytime and you might even catch acrobats rehearsing here. For those looking to celebrate, Epicurean offers premium afternoon tea followed by true fine dining in the evenings. Unsurprisingly given P&O’s predominantly British guests, The Quays features one counter devoted to fish and chips, and one focused on roast meat and Yorkshire puddings. Small salads and desserts are also available throughout the opening hours. Outside seating increases capacity significantly when the weather is good.

This is a quieter alternative to the busier top decks and, while there is no proper swimming pool, there are lots of small hot tubs dotted all the way around this deck as well as two large ones at the stern. Better still this deck has The Quays which offers all-day non-stop food to rival (if not better) the Horizon Buffet. The nighttime entertainment continues down on the main decks, where you’ll find the Headliners Theater. Entertainment here includes lively variety shows by the ship’s resident theater company, as well as performances from visiting artists.

Arvia (Yard no S716), which means ‘from the seashore’, was laid down on 15 February 2022. She is the second Excellence class ship and follows near sister Iona, being completed at the Meyer Werft shipyard, Papenburg, Germany. Billed as the first-ever rum distillery at sea, the drink tastes delicious, made with a blend of Caribbean cask-aged rums from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic.

If privacy is important to you then Balcony cabins to avoid (including those which are suites) are on Deck 8. That’s because these balconies are all on the same level as the wraparound promenade. Walkers and runners lapping the Promenade Deck (of which there are many) pass these balconies every time they circuit the ship. They can also see INTO the cabin which means that you need to close curtains every time you require privacy. Arvia offers Inside (windowless), Outside (ocean-facing with a window), Balcony cabins and Suites, including 28 Single cabins and 32 of the new Conservatory Mini-Suites, which were introduced on sister ship Iona.
